never paint your soffit.. paint will clog the ventilation and all of the soffit must be replaced....

If you have purchased a home that has been "flipped" or has been sold several times you can bet the soffit has been painted for curb appeal. You have no choices but to have new soffit panels installed. The soffit ventilation is essential for an energy efficient & healthy home.

Soffit ventilation is the most important component on any home. On a sunny day in Florida, the temperature outside may be in the high 80's or 90's most days. The heat inside your attic can easily be 160 degrees. Your roof will have gable vents, ridge vents, & maybe even an electric fan that kicks on blowing the super-hot air out of the attic. The AC unit in the home is running at full output trying to cool the home sufficiently. Remember, your ac duct-work is most likely in the attic area of the home. The duct is 160 degrees trying to deliver cold air is next to impossible and your electric bill is extremely high. The number one cause for this situation is the vented soffit panels have been painted shut or mold, pollen, or the attic has had insulation added in an attempt to better insulate the home in an attempt to make the home cooler.

Whatever the reason for clogged soffit ventilation does not really matter. The ridge vents on the roof need to have cross-ventilation, to allow hot air to "draw" naturally from the attic area.

When the sun sets, condensation forms in the attic and will roll down into the soffit area and evaporate. If the soffit vents are painted shut, the condensation can turn to mold & mildew.

This condition can happen almost daily for decades.
